BROKEN CITIES

LISBON

This work is part of Broken Cities, a new chapter within the New Born series — an artistic exploration of the scars and spirit of our urban environments.

In this collection, each city is represented through visual fragments that blend past, present, and imagined futures. The astronaut, a recurring symbol in my universe, continues as the central figure — a wanderer between worlds, cultures, and timelines. In Broken Cities, he is no longer alone. Native animals from each urban setting accompany him, acting as silent guardians or unexpected witnesses of the city’s untold stories.

Lisbon, with its layered history and poetic decay, is reimagined here through iconic symbols — perhaps the 25 de Abril Bridge, a local fox, or hints of azulejo patterns lost in time. These references are not merely decorative; they reflect the soul of the place, its fragility, and resilience.

Each artwork in this series is titled after the city it evokes, yet what it presents is far from a postcard. It’s a broken portrait — not of ruin, but of transformation. Through this lens, Broken Cities invites the viewer to reflect on identity, memory, and the invisible threads that connect us across borders and species.
