Every city is built from stories. Some are written in books, others are painted onto its walls.
Created as part of the Broken Cities project, this mural pays tribute to one of Portugal’s greatest literary voices, António Lobo Antunes. Rather than portraying the writer as a historical figure, the artwork places his legacy in dialogue with a child astronaut—a recurring character throughout the series who represents future generations searching for meaning in a changing world.
The child sits quietly, reading. In a time dominated by speed and distraction, the simple act of opening a book becomes an act of hope. It suggests that knowledge, imagination and culture remain among the strongest foundations upon which a city can rebuild itself.
